The global maritime sector is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by technological advancements, evolving fiscal and legal frameworks, and a growing emphasis on gender equity. This special issue of AROEC invites multidisciplinary contributions that examine the intersections of technology, taxation, law, health, and female employment in the maritime economy.
This call is developed in the context of the Reseach Project IMPACTO DE LA TECNOLOGÍA, LA FISCALIDAD Y LA ECONOMÍA EN LA SALUD Y EL EMPLEO FEMENINO EN EL SECTOR MARÍTIMO (Project Codes: EQA 950.698 - UAX 18.50 - XVIII CALL FOR RESEARCH PROJECT GRANTS UAX_FUAX-MADRID-SPAIN).

We aim to explore how economic, legal, and technological innovations can foster a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable blue economy, with a particular focus on the role of women. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- The impact of technology on employment opportunities, working conditions, and career advancement for women in maritime professions.
- Fiscal policies and their implications for promoting gender equity, fair labor practices, and sustainable growth in the maritime sector.
- Legal frameworks addressing gender discrimination, labor rights, and occupational safety in maritime contexts.
- Health challenges faced by women at sea, including access to healthcare, mental health support, and safe working environments.
- The role of labor law and international maritime regulations in ensuring equitable and inclusive employment practices.
- Economic and legal perspectives on informal labor in the maritime economy and pathways for formalization.
- Case studies of successful integration of gender-focused policies in the blue economy through technology, legal reforms, or fiscal incentives.
Submissions may focus on theoretical analyses, empirical studies, comparative legal frameworks, or practical case studies that illuminate these themes.
We invite submissions from economists, lawyers, sociologists, policy analysts, and scholars from related disciplines who are researching these and other related topics. We are particularly interested in empirical studies, but also welcome theoretical contributions and policy analyses.
Through this special issue, we aim to foster a greater understanding of the intersection between green and blue socio-economics in the SDG context, to contribute to the development of effective policies that will guide us towards a sustainable, inclusive and equalitarian future.
